Yoshiyuki Matsumura
Yoshiyuki Matsumura’s photography has a quiet power.
On set, his presence is marked by an intensely funneled focus, gathering moments with speed and precision. We’ve had the pleasure of working with him on several editorials and have notice how nimbly he moves from portraits to fleeting observations, speaking little, but seeing everything.
His personal work is a poetic dialogue, recalling the spirit of Robert Frank, one of his heroes. Often employing split composition, he divides the frame in ways that heighten tension and lyricism. An avid maker of books and zines, he also contributes regularly to WSJ. Magazine, Numéro Homme, M Le Monde, and more. He is represented by Quadriga.
