Kai-Uwe Gundlach’s photography is outside of time and genre. He moves seamlessly between portraits, automotive, architecture, and landscapes — always with verve and imagination. Equally playful and precise, Kai embraces double exposures, text, and both analog and digital manipulations. He is, above all, a passionate image maker.

I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Kai for clients including Land Rover, Smart, Mercedes, BMW, and MINI. This image, far removed from those automotive shoots, resonates deeply with me as the watchmaker’s daughter. Kai created it in 2013, on the occasion of his parents’ golden anniversary, in a small town on Germany’s northeastern coast. Add romantic to his many attributes.
