Geordie Wood

Geordie Wood is a Brooklyn-based photographer known for his authentic, understated style. With his debut short film Divers, he expands his practice as a director.

Having worked with Geordie on commercial projects such as for Phosis (see this work here), what resonates with me is the pristine open awareness in the way he sees. His minimalist aesthetic is rooted in both emotional and analytical intentionality. Eschewing narrative and voiceover, Geordie let the imagery speak in Divers. Geordie describes himself as someone who seeks control in his creative work, while at the same time striving to being fully present. It is not surprising, then, that Geordie chose to make a film about athletes — after all, they embody this balance.

The seven-minute film premiered at Visions du Réel, an international documentary film festival held annually in Nyon, Switzerland, and will no doubt be shown stateside soon, too.

Geordie Wood has shot for The New York Times Magazine, US Vogue, WSJ Magazine and commercial clients such as Apple, BMW, and Hermès, among others.
