Kate Friend
The recent New Yorker article, “The Miraculous Fate of a Photographer of Miracles” is a great read. Kate Friend’s book There Are Always Flowers For Those Who Want To See Them is balm for the eyes.
Friend, a British photographer, created a body of work revolving around botanical portraits made in places of pilgrimage. Specifically, the holy grounds are Marian-apparition sites, recognized by the Vatican. The 41 photographs of equally fragile and hardy wildflowers — all shot in natural light, on film — hit home, for their beauty, optimism and curiosity alike.
